The Aspen Institute in the UK has hosted 50 webinars since April 2020. ‘The Future of Disinformation’, released on 17 November 2020, was the last in the public webinar series. Aspen UK has convened a diverse range of expert panels from around the UK and beyond to discuss the consequences of this year’s watershed events.
Aspen UK launched their webinar programme in April 2020 at the start of the UK’s first lockdown, in a swift change of direction from their usual in-person activities. Since then, the organisation has set a new standard for the variety of its webinars, engaging a diverse range of speakers on a wealth of topics – from comedy, live music, museums, to security and intelligence, the Commonwealth, and democracy. The series is moderated by some of the best of British journalists and commentators, and released on the Aspen UK Podcast.
‘Thank you to everyone who has joined us this year. We feel privileged to have hosted so many extraordinary speakers from a wonderfully diverse range of disciplines. They all bought immense expertise and shared a great enthusiasm for rigorous conversations.’
Penny Richards, Managing Director of the Aspen Institute in the UK
Aspen UK has hosted 179 speakers from across the UK and from 20 other countries, including 1 sitting Prime Minister, 2 chefs, 3 former Foreign Ministers, 4 farmers, 5 heads of museums, 6 DJs, 7 current or former MPs, 8 Life Peers, 9 performers – and many more.
Next year, Aspen UK will continue its ‘The Future of…’ series, alongside a new series on ‘The Joy of Disagreement’. It will also be partnering with some of the largest youth groups in the UK on a series of webinars, bringing young people together with policy makers to talk about issues that matter to them, and how they can affect change.
