We are excited to announce our new partnership with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), an independent think tank engaged in cutting-edge defence and security research. This partnership will link Aspen UK’s Rising Leaders Fellowship (RLF) with RUSI’s NexGen initiative. The partnership will include collaboration on a series of events and activities which bring the two communities together to explore questions of ethical leadership, celebrating successes in classified work environments, and leadership in the security and defence sector.
The first event took place on 28 November with Lord Jonathan Evans, former Director General of the British Security Service (MI5). Over 200 Aspen UK Rising Leaders and members of the RUSI NextGen initiative registered for the event, which featured an interactive conversation between Lord Evans and Aspen UK Rising Leader, Dr Bianca Slocombe. They discussed Lord Evans’ career highlights and answered questions ranging from how to develop a career in the secret services to how to celebrate success in a classified work environment.
The next event is taking place on 16 January and will feature RUSI Associate Fellow Lucy Fisher, Whitehall Editor for the Financial Times. The session will explore the role of the media in holding the government to account and the importance of network development and cultivation. More events will soon be announced including an in-person event at RUSI’s headquarters on Whitehall, London. These events are exclusively available to Aspen UK Rising Leaders and RUSI NextGen members.
