This webinar will examine how music can foster and support leaders in our cities.
Using the cities of Belfast and Cardiff as case studies, we are delighted to welcome a panel of speakers from across the UK to discuss how they have harnessed the power of music in different cities.
The webinar will be brought to you by the Aspen UK Rising Leaders Fellowship; a community of some of the best young leaders in the UK who are keen to explore how different leadership attributes and skills can bring about more cohesion in our society. This webinar considers music as a leadership tool, and specifically how we can use music to improve and influence our communities.
Joining us on the panel is Shain Shapiro, Lynne Best, and Huw Thomas, with moderation by Aspen UK Rising Leader Emmanuel E.C. Ebokosia.
Shain Shapiro is the author of This Must be the Place, released on 12 September to critical acclaim. Shain is the global authority in understanding how music and cities intersect. He founded Sound Diplomacy, the global leading economic consultancy working with cities on music, cultural and entertainment policy. He also leads the nonprofit Center for Music Ecosystems, which commissions research to help solve local, national, and international challenges using music as a tool.
Shain will be joined by Lynne Best and Huw Thomas.
Lynne Best is a managing partner of Fourth Pillar, a corporate and financial strategic communications firm that specialises in the business of music. Lynne has spent 15 years in the music business and wider creative industries, and prior to Fourth Pillar, she was Head of Communications for the music licensing company PPL and Director at Well Red Music and Media. Lynne was a key contributor to the City of Music Steering Group in securing Belfast a UNESCO City of Music title.
Councillor Huw Thomas is the Leader of Cardiff Council, a position he has held since May 2017. Huw is the Chair of the Cardiff Music Board and leads pioneering work looking at how music can be incorporated in all areas of city life and development, informed by the Cardiff Music Strategy that was developed in partnership with Sound Diplomacy.
Facilitating the conversation is Manny E.C. Ebokosia, an award-winning social entrepreneur and the Founder of True Cadence (TC). TC was inspired by his lived experience as a young creative and powered by his vision to provide young people with opportunities he had been previously locked out of.
This webinar is open to Aspen UK Rising Leaders and seminar alumni and anyone else interested in hearing more about this fascinating topic.
