Leadership and The Danger of Playing it Safe will explore the future of food, farming and sustainability, and the impact of innovative leadership. It will also examine the dynamics of diversity in the leadership structures in farming, sustainable agriculture, being black in a predominantly white profession, and innovation in a traditional sector.
Our esteemed guest speaker is Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones MBE, aka ‘The Black Farmer’ is a businessman, author, inspirational speaker and founder of The Black Farmer brand. Wilfred is, in his own words, ‘a poor boy, done good’. He was born in Jamaica and then, after his parents came to the UK in the 50s as part of the Windrush generation, was raised in inner city Birmingham.
His career spans working for the BBC as producer/ director, founding a food and drink marketing agency, running a farm and setting up the hugely successful Black Farmer brand, being awarded an Honorary Degree for Distinction in the Farming Industry and an Honorary Doctorate in Marketing, publishing two books, being awarded an MBE for Services to Farming, and, most recently, launching New Faces for Farming to encourage more diversity into farming.
The event will be facilitated by one of our Rising Leaders Fellows and will be held virtually.
