The Case of Madre Ippolita Children’s Home in Rural Kenya
Drawing on his involvement with Madre Ippolita Children’s Home and a project to establish a school in rural Kenya, Charities & Social Impact Ambassador Diego Trucco will explore some of the opportunities, tensions and uncertainties that come with working across borders.
Through a short talk and screening of his documentary ‘Children of Ndithini’ (followed by a Q&A), Diego will share the story of a long-term partnership shaped by local leadership, international fundraising and organisations. The project offers a starting point for a much broader conversation about how international support works in practice: who identifies what is needed, who makes decisions, how funders respond to local priorities, and what happens when good intentions encounter bureaucracy, distance and different ways of working.
This session will invite us to think about some of its harder questions. How can resources and expertise be shared without creating dependency or taking away local ownership? What makes an international partnership genuinely collaborative? And how do you work responsibly when you are entering a community, context or country that is not your own?
